The Eurasia Democracy Initiative (EDI) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of democracy, rule of law and interethnic tolerance in post-Communist states of Eastern and Central Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. EDI seeks to deepen relations between these countries and the United States by stressing the importance of democracy and respect for human rights as integral to the region's social and economic development.  EDI believes that the only way to achieve lasting stability, peace and security in this region is through a frank and active dialogue between its governments and the civil society. EDI works in the United States and Europe and actively cooperates with internationional and local civil society actors.

EDI has for many years worked with immigration lawyers, providing its expertise in immigration cases involving asylum-seekers from countries of the former Soviet Union. These incude: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

EDI prepares “country conditions” reports in eligible asylum cases in the United States involving issues of politically-motivated persecution, freedom of conscience, ethnic discrimination, discrimination against women and LGBT rights.
